Locations A firm connection to our roots

Production site in Schramberg

The centre of our activities is the greater district town of Schramberg in the Black Forest, Germany. Here, in what was once the hub of Black Forest clock production, the spirit of invention and industry has long prevailed. A hundred years ago, in an area which housed a burgeoning clock industry, the town was filled with a sense of a new era about to dawn. All over the town, in its garages, sheds and back rooms, small businesses were being founded to supply the large Schramberg clock factories- of which Junghans is probably the most renowned. Against this backdrop, HECO was also founded. Over time, Schramberg became a centre for metal processing and fine mechanics.

A location is as good as you make it. As a medium-sized family company with a long history, we have spent 125 years shaping the ideal HECO location. How is that possible? Well it's quite simple really: because our strength lies in the development and production of screws, we have nurtured and built on that expertise. This expertise is in the heads of our employees. Our major asset is therefore the people that bring their in-depth knowledge to our production and development. And because these people are deeply rooted in this location, so are we. Our roots are here in Schramberg – as is our future.

Logistic centre in Schramberg

The HECO logistics centre is the obvious answer to ever increasing demands for contemporary and reliable merchandise management. It was commissioned in 2014 in the direct vicinity of the main plant and comprises three areas:

  • 1 high rack, 20 m in height with 5,000 storage spaces for pallets
  • 1 automatic small parts warehouse with more than 58,000 storage spaces for cartons
  • 1 spacious order picking and dispatch area

With the construction of the logistics centre, HECO has increased its warehouse capacity considerably and optimised output capacity with the help of state-of-the-art order picking technology. In the process, HECO meets the market’s current and future challenges with efficient and highly reliable processes. The construction was engineered so that the building can be extended to include additional building sections as required. When planning the logistics centre, great importance was placed on an energy-efficient operation. Thus the heating for the entire building complex is largely provided by an internally operated combined heat and power plant. Even the storage and retrieval machines in the high-rack and small parts warehouses save around 20 to 25 percent of the required energy as a result of energy recovery, and thus run particularly efficiently.

Production site in Romania

In 2009, the screw production unit at HECO in Schramberg was so stretched due to the constant expansion of the product range that production capacities needed to be increased. When it came to looking for a suitable site for a second factory, Câmpia Turzii in Romania was chosen. It is 40 km south-east of Cluj-Napoca, the second largest city in Romania, has a long tradition of metal working and thus provided the ideal environment for further business growth. In 2014, after five years in operation, the site was expanded to include an additional hall. In 2016, HECO acquired a further piece of land in order to ensure further room for manoeuvre in the future.

As an EU member state with political stability and a good logistical connection, Romania facilitates a smooth flow of material and goods between the sites at Schramberg and Câmpia Turzii. With very well qualified and highly motivated staff, and with the help of our tried-and-tested quality management system, HECO is able to successfully implement the quality standards in Câmpia Turzii too. With its high production quantities, the factory makes a significant contribution to ensuring the reliable availability for delivery of our products, and to the overall success of our company.
